The Strzałkowo Commune

The Strzałkowo commune is situated in the direct neighbourhood of important transport routes (A2 motorway, K92 Warsaw-Poznan national road, E20 Moscow-Poznan railroad). It is inhabited by 10 192 people and the population of Strzałkowo itself is 5382 (26.08.2016). The grounds of the commune are quite flat, mainly of agricultural character, devoid of any large water reservoirs. Lack of heavy industry, which results in clean, healthy air as well as charming forest and park nooks, determine tourist virtues of the commune. The region is worth visiting for its attractive relics from the past, parks by former manors or picturesque landscape. Visitors will certainly become interested in beautiful nature monuments, for example the park in Strzałkowo founded at the beginning of XIX century or the XIX century park in Wólka with its amazing access avenue called "Kasztanówka". A maple-leaf plane tree in the park in Staw is one of many nature curiosities of the Strzałkowo commune.
A visit to the Strzałkowo commune is also an interesting experience due to some of its historic monuments. St. Dorothy's church, situated in centre of Strzałkowo, is without doubt one of the most valuable examples of them. It was erected in 1934 in the place of a former wooden church from 1397. The only equipment retained includes a rococo procession crucifix, a chalice and vestments from the beginning of XVIII century. While in the neighbourhood, it is worth to visit the village of Chwałkowice with its former manor complex erected in the years 1830-1910. Wooden church lovers will find something for themselves in Graboszewo. There is a wooden St. Margareth's church dating back to the turn of XVI and XVII century. It functions as a parish church now. Visitors can also take a stroll in the manor park created at the beginning if XIX century. Other wooden churches are located in Ostrowo Kościelne, Staw and Brudzewo. Those who have a liking for romantic nooks and vast, green areas are recommended to visit palace complexes and surrounding them parks in Młodziejewice, Radłowo, Skąpe, Słomczyce, Wólka, Paruszewo and Unia. Those of visitors who enjoy literature will certainly be interested in visiting Kościanki. Jan Hulewicz, a representative of Polish expressionism, writer, painter and publisher was the owner of Kościanki. Many famous people of culture such as Jarosław Iwaszkiewicz, Emil Zegadłowicz, Ludomir Różycki as well as Nobel Prize winner Władysław Reymont were guests at his splendid manor.
The economy of the Strzałkowo commune is dominated by agriculture. Local agricultural products and farm animals are well known for their high quality. However, the inhabitants of the commune are not only farmers. Many of them work in the agricultural and food industry as well as in building companies. The A2 motorway, which runs through our commune, makes neighbouring investment terrains more attractive what of course affects economic activity in this region. The Commune Council has passed a bill concerning property tax exemption to draw the attention of potential investors with a view to decreasing unemployment. The commune owns a sewage treatment plant and selective collection of municipal waste is being put into practice within the confines of environment protection.
